Frequently asked questions
- What is managed IT, and what does AM Tech do for our business?
- AM Tech serves as your dedicated IT department. We manage your servers, workstations, email, internet, security, backups, and business phones under a single monthly agreement. Our team monitors your systems around the clock, resolves issues proactively before they affect your operations, and provides a single point of contact for every technology need — so you can focus on running your business instead of managing vendors.
- What is included in AM Tech Shield, and how does it differ from Total AM Tech Shield?
- AM Tech Shield covers your day-to-day IT operations — 24/7 monitoring and support, endpoint security, cloud administration, identity protection, email security, hardware lifecycle management, and monthly reporting. Total AM Tech Shield builds on that foundation with compliance and audit readiness for regulated industries: quarterly compliance reviews, vulnerability scanning, security awareness training, simulated phishing exercises, and automated audit evidence. Most clients begin with AM Tech Shield and add the Total tier when compliance requirements become a priority. See the pricing page for a full side-by-side comparison.
- How does the transition work, and will we experience any downtime?
- Transitions are designed to be seamless. During the first two weeks, our team documents your environment, deploys monitoring agents, and installs endpoint protection — scheduled after business hours wherever possible. We work alongside your existing systems rather than replacing them all at once. The vast majority of clients experience no service interruption during onboarding. Within the first month, you will have a complete technology inventory, baseline reports, and a dedicated technical lead who knows your environment.
- How quickly do you respond when we have an issue?
- During business hours, you reach a live engineer in under 15 minutes — no automated phone trees or ticketing queues. After hours, our 24/7 monitoring resolves most issues before they require a call. For critical outages, our on-call engineer is paged immediately regardless of the time. Response and resolution targets are documented in your service agreement so expectations are clear from day one.
- We already have an internal IT person. Can AM Tech still work with us?
- Absolutely. Roughly a third of our clients operate in a co-managed model, where their internal IT staff handles day-to-day decisions and AM Tech provides after-hours coverage, specialist expertise in cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure, and compliance, and the automation tools that make a small IT team significantly more capable. Your existing IT staff gains a stronger support structure without giving up ownership of the relationship.
- Do you support all types of devices — Macs, mobile phones, and printers?
- Yes. We support Windows and macOS desktops and laptops, iPhones, Android devices, and tablets. On the infrastructure side, we cover networked printers, conference room systems, point-of-sale equipment, security cameras, VoIP phones, and guest Wi-Fi. If it connects to your network or supports your business operations, we manage it.
- How do you protect our business from ransomware and phishing attacks?
- We take a layered approach rather than relying on any single tool. Every device runs advanced endpoint protection — SentinelOne or Microsoft Defender — that detects ransomware behavior and automatically reverses damage. Email security filters phishing attempts before they reach your inbox. DNS-level filtering through Cisco Umbrella blocks malicious websites before connections are made. Multi-factor authentication is enforced on every account. And identity threat detection monitors for compromised credentials in real time, stopping unauthorized access before it becomes a breach.
- We operate in a regulated industry. How do you handle our compliance requirements?
- Compliance is built into how we manage your IT from day one — not addressed only when an audit is approaching. We select tools that satisfy your regulatory framework, maintain documentation continuously, and prepare you for audits with organized evidence and a clear audit-readiness walkthrough. We work with healthcare organizations (HIPAA), financial services firms, law offices, insurance carriers and brokers, manufacturers with defense-supply-chain requirements, and real-estate operators. Each industry has a distinct regulatory profile, and we stay current with the specific rules that apply to your business.
- Can you design and build our server infrastructure — cloud or on-premise?
- Server infrastructure design and deployment is a core AM Tech specialty. We architect and build cloud environments on Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, and Google Cloud, as well as on-premise and hybrid configurations — each tailored to your workload, compliance requirements, and budget. As a certified channel partner with all three major cloud providers, we continuously evaluate platform pricing and technology trends to recommend the solution that delivers the best long-term value for your business. Every infrastructure engagement begins with a discovery and design phase so the build fits your specific needs before a single dollar is committed.
Right-sized managed IT for the way you work.
